"Digidev's vision offers a simplified online customer management system enabling content providers direct access to consumers and revenues." - Joe Q. Bretz, Digidev President
As of 2011, 35 percent of the global population is online (up from only 18 percent in 2006), and 45 percent of these users are under age 25, a demographic which historically has spent considerable time online and engaging with digital media. 1 There are 5.9 billion mobile cellular subscriptions, of which more than 1.2 billion are broadband mobile as illustrated below:
Mobile broadband subscriptions have grown 45 percent over the past four years and exceed fixed (wired) broadband subscriptions considerably. Currently, per ITU, 45 percent of the globe has mobile 3G coverage, with 90 percent of the world covered by 2G cellular. 1
The opportunity for Digidev is truly global in scale; while the United States is a dominant powerhouse when it comes to producing entertainment content which has strong global appeal (global box office reached $32.6 billion in 2011, powered by the continuing growth in international markets, up from $22.4 billion in 2010, and increasing despite the fact the North American theatrical box office gross dropped to $10.2 billion in 2011 from $10.6 billion in 2010 2), it lags behind many other nations in terms of infrastructure capabilities, particularly with regard to broadband access speeds.
Per the following chart from ITU, the U.S. as of 2011 ranked 16th for fixed broadband subscriptions per 100 inhabitants (27.6, narrowly edging out the tiny island of Malta!), trailing much of Scandinavia and some key European and Asian countries, and was ranked 24th for active mobile broadband subscriptions per 100 inhabitants (54.0).
